Hi, I’m Rachael – a York-based qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).
I am a person-centered counsellor with a CPCAB level 4 diploma in therapeutic counselling and am working towards completing my BSc (Honours) Psychology degree. Alongside my counselling practice I volunteer in my spare time as a counsellor for 1-2-1 Counselling, a charity that provides short term low cost counselling, I am also a trustee on the board at 1-2-1 and support in the running of the charity. Before I qualified as a counsellor I worked for many years at OneBright, a private mental health company that offers a range of psychological therapy and neurodevelopmental services.
I have worked with many people from all backgrounds and levels of mental health issues to help them navigate the challenges of their mental health and well-being, and I bring this knowledge and experience into our work together.
Whilst person centred counselling is at the core of my therapeutic practice, I sometimes use creative methods to enhance the traditional talking therapy. This can include drawing, sandbox work, and nesting dolls, these can be helpful tools for processing trauma or for people who struggle to articulate their feelings. These creative interventions are used to supplement the counselling therapy rather than replace it, to help with deeper self-understanding and healing.
Finding the right therapist can be daunting, but it is important that you feel safe and heard with the counsellor you choose, as the relationship we build together in our sessions is key to a successful outcome for you. I aim to offer a calm, non-judgemental, empathetic space where I listen to what you want to bring and at your pace. I encourage booking a free 30 minute consultation with me so that you can decide if I am the right fit to accompany you on your journey before committing.
